Year 2

Autumn Term

During the first half of the Autumn term, we will be looking at the question 'What makes my house my home?' We will be exploring homes around the world and comparing to homes in our local area. We will look at different materials and their suitability. Children will write a traditional tale based on 'The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig' and a letter derived from the test This Is Our House.

During the second half of the Autumn term, we will be beginning our project on The Great Fire of London. Children will take part in a drama workshop and visit the local fire station. We will look at the timeline of events and focus on Samuel Pepys and his diary. Children will write a recount of events and a diary entry as Samuel Pepys.

Spring Term

During the Spring term, we will be looking at the significant individuals, Tim Peake and Neil Armstrong. Children will write their own alien story and write a biography of a significant individual.

We will also be focusing upon healthy eating and the importance of exercise. Children will be able to make a healthy meal and take part in boot camps.

We will also have our Harmans Water essential experience sleepover, near the end of the Spring term.

Summer term

Our key text at the beginning of the Summer term will be 'The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark'. We will be exploring animals and their habitats and identifying a range of animals and plants within different habitiats. We will look at food chains for different habitats and begin to discuss how animals and plants rely on each other.

During the last half term, we will look at Jack and the Beanstalk. Children will have the opportunity to grow their own plant and see how seeds mature.

We will also be visiting the beach, as part of our Harmans Water essential experiences, during the Summer term.
