Year 2

Autumn Term

So far in the Autumn term, we have looked at the question ‘What makes houses strong?’ We learnt about houses from around the world and the materials that they are made from. We’ve now moved onto our next question ‘Why do we have fire fighters?’ Within this, we are learning about the Great Fire of London. To begin our topic, we had our own mini (and controlled!) Great Fire of London. The children absolutely loved it and it was a fantastic discussion point to our new theme. We have a very exciting creative workshop before half term for the children to immerse themselves further into the Great Fire of London. We will also be visiting the fire station to help us answer the key question before moving onto our next question.

Spring Term

In the Spring term, we are looking at questions 'How do you become an astronaut?' and 'Can animals survive in space?' Through these questions, we are going to look at the lives of significant individuals, develop geographical map skills and look at the importance of healthy eating and exercise. Through the term, children will: take part in a theatre workshop, become alien hunters, design and make rockets, experience a planetarium, make a healthy meal and participate in an asotronaut training camp.
