Autumn 1

In the autumn term we spend time exploring our new environment and making friends. We learn about ourselves and our families.  We use the the book 'Owl Babies' to explore and express our feelings.  We then spend some time looking at The Gruffalo and learning about the woodlands.  Later on in the term we enjoy finding out about different festivals and celebrations. We learn and produce our Christmas play for all our parents and carers at the end of term.

Spring

In the spring term we learn about different enviroments, focusing on whether we would like to live in a cold place.  We learn about different habitats for animals and we explore maps and globes.   We also learn about healthy eating and how we can look after our teeth.  After half term, we think about what job we might like to do when we grow up, with members of our local community coming in to talk to us.  We end the term by celebrating Easter.

Summer

During this term we have some ducklings hatch out at school who we look after. This links to our topic on changes. We plant flowers and watch them grow, as well as having tadpoles in the classroom to observe. We learn about minibeasts and we ask the questions 'What makes a good home for a minibeast?'.  After half term, we like to go out on a school trip to somewhere in our local community to give us real life experiences.  We also use the book 'Rainbow Fish' to help us think about being a good friend and to support us in our transition to Year 1.
