Welcome to Year 3!

Autumn Term

During Autumn term, our driver project is ‘Through the Ages’. We study the period of History from the beginning of the Stone Age through to the end of the Iron Age. We also have smaller projects in Geography, Art, Science and Design and Technology which go alongside this.

In Maths we consolidate place value up to 100 before moving on to place value up to 1000 and the four operations, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

In English we read our key texts ‘Stone Age Boy’, ‘Dear Earth’ and ‘The First Drawing’ which link to our projects. This term we write a setting description, persuasive letter and instructions.

This term we have an exciting History workshop in school where we explore life in the Stone Age.

Spring Term

During Spring term, our Driver project is ‘Rocks, Relics and Rumbles’. We will be learning all about the structure of the Earth, types of rocks, fossils, volcanoes and natural disasters. We also have smaller linked projects in Science, Art and Design and Technology.

In Maths, we learn addition and subtraction using the column method as well as fractions and money.

In English, we will be reading some lovely books which link to our driver topic, ‘The Iron Man’, ‘Escape from Pompeii’ and ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’ and will be writing to persuade and to entertain.

In English, we read key texts linking to our project ‘The Boy who Drew Dragons’ and ‘Boudica’s Army’. We will be writing to inform, entertain and explain.

We will be going on a school trip to Ufton Court, bringing our learning on Romans to life.
